We had a fantastic experience with Urban Garden Center, and I can't recommend them enough! Dimitri took care of our tree pit protection installation from start to finish. He handled everything — from the permit process to the fabrication and final installation — with professionalism and efficiency. The whole team was incredibly easy to work with and very communicative throughout the entire process. The tree guard looks great, and we couldn't be happier with the results. If you need any outdoor work done, Urban Garden Center is the place to go! Highly recommended!

UGC carries both indoor and outdoor plants, along with the usual plant supplies and gardening accessories. The indoor plant selection isn't that great and the prices are high considering the size and condition of the plants. Even on sale they're not worth it. I bought a ceramic planter and (unbeknownst to me until my first time watering) there were hairline cracks running through it top to bottom. Waste of money. I don't see myself coming back.

Edit: In response to the owner's reply, the roundtrip fare would mean I only get back like $6 so I don't see the point in returning the pot.

I love supporting local businesses, and have been coming to Urban Garden Center for a few years now, especially because it's a fun experience under the train tracks. It's a really cool spot and is a neat escape from the city around it. That said, the prices at this place are ridiculously high. I've always found them expensive, but this year I schlepped all the way over there to get a Christmas wreath, but was dumbfounded to discover that they were HUNDREDS of dollars! For wreaths! It was astonishing, really. Who in East Harlem is able to afford wreaths that cost so much money All I can think of is property management companies who have deeper pockets than the average uptowner. It was very disappointing. A medium wreath should be $35; a large one $50, and an XL one should be $99 at the absolute max. The prices were multiples of that. Truly unbelievable.

Got our Christmas tree here after struggling to find larger trees (we were looking for a 10 foot tree) and being quoted astronomical prices downtown. The service was so helpful and attentive, they were so sweet to my kids, and they had a huge selection of trees of all sizes. Once we picked ours they tied it to our car, and we were on our way. Will come back to this spot every year, and highly recommend to anyone looking for an alternative to the ripoff tree stands across Manhattan.

Truly disappointed in the experience I had with UGC.
I contacted Sarah, the manager at the time, from UGC about purchasing soil, pots, and plants wholesale for a nearby project I was leading in central Harlem planting a garden at a senior housing center. I wanted to purchase supplies from a local nursery to keep business within the community, which turned out to be a huge mistake while working with UGC.
For one, they took their sweet time in responding back to my inquiries about working with them. Sarah was wishy washy about pricing and initially promised a decent discount considering how much soil, pots, and foliage I was buying from them (more $500 worth of supplies). She started at 40% off, only to drop down to 5% off the total which I only realized after I was sent the invoice. I was also told by Sarah that they would not charge me to drop off the supplies, as the senior home was 1.2 miles (to be exact) away from the UGC. Of course, I was charged the drop-off fee anyways. I literally purchased $500+ worth of supplies from them! Everything in the store was incredibly overpriced, to add to that. The *cherry* on top of the cake was the delivery driver, Angel, THROWING TRASH out of the UGC truck window when he pulled up to the senior home. Littered in front of the volunteer garden project for old folks. I will never understand that. I will also NEVER bring my business back here, and neither should you.

Me and my partner had a wonderful experience here. Honey and Melvin were very accommodating and helped us find the perfect plants for our home. I did see some plants that looked like they needed a bit more help than others but with amount of plants to care for and the amount of staff, it’s understandable.

Overall they have a ton of healthy plants to choose from at a reasonable price. We will definitely be back once these babies settle in and continue to thrive. Thank You Urban Garden!

I ordered almost $250 worth of firewood 5 days ago, and after 8 phone calls, one deliver attempt with them leaving before delivering the wood because they didn't have their act together, and me asking them to invoice me for whatever extra charge would be required (yes, I willing to even pay more), I still don't have my firewood.

Website is confusing, staff seem all over the place, they don't call back when they say they will, even after promising they will. Website isn't clear what to select to get something as simple as wood delivered and stacked into your apartment, and staff don't know how to charge for it and send the message to the delivery guy.

Poorly managed for something so simple.

Manager's reply is so misleading -- I literally agreed to pay whatever extra would be required. They invoiced me but then still didn't deliver it. 6 days later, still nothing from them. STAY AWAY.
