I lived in a true luxury apartment in downtown LA and truly miss it. Due to circumstances, I can’t leave the Bay Area, but my time there was the best living experience I’ve ever had.

In contrast, after moving to Atlas in Oakland, California, I was extremely disappointed. I have been here almost a year and dread the days until I can get out. Atlas is overpriced, crime-riddled, and poorly managed. There is a homeless center right in front, my teen son was spat on by them, and people frequently break into cars. Shootings and homicides are also common. The parking, owned by Douglass, has gates that are always broken, and someone even managed to steal a car. Additionally, there is now a nightclub, leading to more fights breaking out. Many people’s credit cards come up missing, including mines. I had to buy a PO Box and ship my personal mail elsewhere because of high theft in this building.

The third floor smells horrible because of dog urine and people leave dog poop/pee all over this place without cleaning up after themselves.

While it’s a nice building with great views, the area and management aren’t worth it. The cleaning staff and concierge are awesome, but the coffee machine is always broken for days on end, along with the hot tub. The graveyard guards responsible for refilling it every morning lags on the job and doesn’t seem interested in doing it properly. Do yourself a favor, don’t move here. I regret staying at Atlas, but we had no choice at the time and did little to no research. Good luck trying to get straight answers from management.

-My old email is expired, giving update with my new email after completing the year here.

Writing this review again because Atlas is failing to deal with a serious safety issue.

I deleted my previous review because I thought it had been dealt with as well as possible, but once again Atlas is sweeping a serious issue under the rug and gambling on people's lives.

There is a mentally ill woman living in the penthouse who continues to throw dangerous objects 40 stories down into the dog park. These include: shoes, cast iron skillets, water bottles, glass, and more. This has been occurring for months and is escalating. The police have been out at least 3 times now and she has been arrested but quickly returns to the building.

Management informs us of NOTHING. They re-open the dog park with no information as to whether we are safe from lethal objects being dropped on us and our dogs.

More issues, because they seem to be getting people to write 5 star reviews:
1. They don't enforce community rules relating to guest limits. The pool is as good as a YMCA public pool in the summer. A small number of residents bring over 10+ guests weekly and crowd out common areas.
2. The lack of community events. I thought the building would be social with events to meet other residents. The events have been quite lackluster and seem to be more about feeding families in the building. Again, residents bring over their friends/family such that food is limited to a single chicken wing.

I had a fantastic experience with James Wilkes while viewing the Atlas building in Oakland. As a new expat in the city, I really appreciated the time and effort he put into showing me multiple apartments and thoroughly explaining all the details. He patiently answered all my questions, making the process much easier and more comfortable. His professionalism and dedication made a big difference, and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a new home!

My wife and I have been living here for a little over 2 months now. Our experience here has been really great so far. The amenities are pretty dope, but most ppl commented about those already. The staff goes above and beyond to create a luxury atmosphere for residents, and are super friendly in-person if you happen to run into one another in the halls. Big shout-out to Richard, Mya, Milan, and Rachel for everything they do. There are over 500+ ppl here, and they hold it down. (Looking forward to meeting other folks while we're here.🤙🏾)

Hands down the nicest gym I've used in an apartment complex. Views are unmatched to anything else in Oakland to my knowledge. Private trainers, Full squat rack, bikes, rowers, treadmills, yoga rooms, YOU NAME IT!!! 🧑🏾🎙️.

Game nights, pool tables, dog care, multiple lounges, a sunset lounge, theater rooms, private chef reservations, pizza ovens, a pool, patios, and outdoor communal spaces, and somehow I know I'm missing something. The cost for renting a 2 bedroom is pretty fair from our POV, but subjective to wherever you're coming from and personal budget. We shopped around a few similar complexes, and it's kind of unmatched. There's even an internal app for booking movers, mounting services, and the list goes on.

The community building among residents is also a huge plus for us. We've attended a few events hosted by residents, parties hosted by the building, and hosted our own events to meet new ppls. If you're moving from outside of the bay, this is definitely a place to network, or connect with friends. Ppl who live hear are super friendly, and if you're in a Atlas group ppl look out for one another. Overall ppl here are really cool, every community has its own version of "Nextdoor Karen" 🧒🏾👩👨🏿👩🏼👴🏾👵🏽, but we tune that negativity out.

The surrounding neighborhood is downtown Oakland, a city, not to be compared to a suburb. We've lived in multiple metropolitan cities, so we act accordingly, and respect our surroundings. Been living in Oakland for 6 yrs with no safety issues. Downtown is a vibe, plenty of new and old local restaurants/businesses with all types of cuisine/services, 12th St BART entrance is basically downstairs, Black-owned businesses everywhere ✊🏿✊🏽✊🏾, coffee shops on every other corner, and the lake is also nearby for dog walkers/runners. I can't speak to the area prior to moving here, but my wife feels safe walking around.

I normally don't write long reviews like this, but valued ppls feedback when we were apt hunting. Hope this is helpful to ppl looking to move. Look forward to meeting you soon ✌🏾. Thanks again Atlas gang!

I had the most incredible tour with James Wilkes from Atlas Oakland, and I can’t say enough good things about it! From start to finish, James was not only knowledgeable but also brought a warm and inviting energy that made the tour truly special.

His deep understanding of the community, neighborhoods, and local spots was impressive. James took the time to share intriguing stories and insights that brought Oakland to life for me. His passion for the city was evident, and it made the experience feel personal and authentic.

What stood out the most was how James created a comfortable atmosphere, making it easy for me to ask questions and share my thoughts. His positive vibes made the tour enjoyable and engaging, and I left feeling more connected to Oakland than ever before.

Choosing Atlas for my next home suddenly became an easier decision with James guiding me through the process. If you’re considering a tour, I highly recommend reaching out to James Wilkes—his expertise and enthusiasm will not disappoint!

Apartment Failing to Address Serious Safety Hazard

I am posting this review as my last resort after multiple attempts trying to ask management to remove a safety hazard outside of my apartment’s window, with them completely failing to address this issue and taking it seriously.

My neighbor above me decided to drop a 50ft bundle of plugged in electrical wires out of her window and have it fall down to my apartment’s window. We’ve notified the apartment’s staff on multiple occasions asking them to remove these electrical wires as it is a safety hazard. It’s plugged in and the circuit is next to an open window, it just takes a few drops of rain for things to go seriously wrong. The window frames around our apartment are made out of metal and can conduct electricity, so I’m constantly worried for my safety as well as those of my family and pet. The wires are long enough to pass my floor and even reached the neighbor below me. The neighbor below has the same concern and just came up to talk to me about these wires hanging down to our apartments.

I would not have posted this review had the management addressed this issue at all. We have notified them multiple times through phone calls, emails, in person, and today when we asked to speak to the manager directly, a staff member told us to return after the manager finishes his lunch. We came back later only to meet with another staff member named Rachel, who decided that the best way to talk to a client was as to argue with my boyfriend, who was simply there to find someone to talk to about an ongoing safety hazard which has not been addressed. The hostility came out of seemingly nowhere. We could’ve been informed about needing to make an appointment with the manager in a professional manner, especially the staff before Rachel simply told us to come back after the manager had had his lunch.

After days of being stressed out about these electrical wires, this is the straw that broke the camel’s back and drove me to write this review and may seek further legal guidance and action. Rachel’s hostile attitude let us know that nothing will be resolved unless we escalate the situation. The electrical wires are still hanging outside of my window as I’m writing this review.

On top of all that, the renter above me also threw trash down from her balcony. Some of it landed on my balcony and some on the street. The same neighbor also threw sharp pieces of glass from the 40th floor down to the dog park, causing the park to be closed after dogs were injured. We are paying premium price for our penthouse unit only to clean up after other people’s mess and having to worry about our safety with management’s negligence and zero interest in solving the matter.
