If you are nostalgic about road trips and or Route 66 “type” motels, High Desert Lodge is a great stop. Clean motel, reasonable prices and a friendly staff, we stumbled on HDL by chance on a family road trip. They were great getting us and five kids set up for a restful night. Fun breakfast place down the street called the 20 Mule Cafe. Fun experience to make some family memories. As others mentioned, there is a train that runs behind the motel. The motel provides complementary ear plugs and the rumble of the train adds to the experience. It may not look like much from the road, but it’s clean, safe and fun.

We had a bad oil leak with our diesel so we urgently searched for a place that night that wasn't too expensive but most importantly had parking space for our truck since it was hauling a trailer. Service was excellent, the owner let us park our (leaking) truck on the gravel part of the parking lot then in the morning my father went out to pick up a part and oil to replace the sensor and the pilot lost the leakage. There was a pet friendly room but unfortunately our dog was too big so we couldn't rent that room so one of us slept inside the truck to watch the animals and our belongings in the truck bed. Would highly recommend over "Budget" Inn which wanted $175 over the $75 we paid for our room. The "Budget" Inn likely would have had the same room sizes and quality if you compared their layouts.

For the price it was exactly what I expected. It was nice, small, and i enjoy the train that comes by every so often. The onsite manager was very helpful and super polite.
All around, I have nothing bad to say about the place. It was nice, small (but it was also in the middle of nowhere and there is only 7 rooms) the bed was comfortable, shower was small but again it was just right for the price and location.

Try the 20 mule Cafe.

Awesome place, great homey feel. Every time we travel we will stay here. Great prices. I finally got a good night sleep at a hotel because I felt so safe. Not like someone was going to break into my vehicle in the middle of the night.

The train does come by at night. But I enjoyed the ambiance. It could bother some people though.

Clean , nicely decorated, microwave, mini fridge, very friendly manager on-site. Train does run behind Motel can be a bit noisy at times. I have stayed and all the other hotels around this area within 50 miles this one by far is the best and offers the best value for the money.

We came through for wasteland weekend and arrived around 5am. They answered the phone quickly and friendly both times i called (2am and 5am) had a room for us on super short notice at an odd hour. Manager was friendly, rooms were clean and uniquely decorated, the bed was comfortable, and the accoutrements were all working great. We noticed the train, but didn't mind. Will definitely be planning to stay here next time. Cheapest hotel around, but definitely didn't feel like it.

We liked it, retro, kitschy decor. Bed was fine, the train going by wasn't so bad. We've stayed in way nicer rooms for less$ and way worse for more$. Did think $25 extra for the dog was excessive but overall, the room was good.

A Great motel. not a cookie cutter Big time motel. 7 theme rooms. Very clean . Queen size bed. And a very nice manager ( Larry) helpful and loves his job. 1950s motel rehabilitate nicely. Great dinner house down the street.
A nice place to stay while exploring the Mohave desert or Rail Fanning. The Boron Museums are well done and the tour of Boron mine is well worth the stop.
