I have used TH Norton Landscape Architecture two times. Once for my home in Carmel and once for my home in Noe Valley, SF. Both times Tom's design exceeded my expectations and gave me a beautiful, contemporary landscape that was also drought tolerant. He was always on time for appointments and followed up when necessary. I would not consider anyone else for a landscape project in the Bay Area.
In addition I have to say that I have never found a more professional individual who answers my questions and helps with the maintenance of my beautiful garden. Repeatedly he has been there to troubleshoot issues (lighting, stone work, planting, etc) that have arisen over the years. His customer service is impecable.

I highly recommend Tom Norton as a professional landscape architect who is attuned to homeowners’ personal design aesthetic, as well as their budget and environmental concerns (eg, wildfire risk). Tom helped us twice - once in 2014 when we first renovated/landscaped our house and again in 2021 when we wanted to make our front and backyards more drought tolerant and implement more wildfire-resistant landscaping. From start to finish, Tom patiently created and modified his landscape designs for us to reflect our personal preferences for a modern, clean aesthetic that complemented our architectural design (contemporary), while at the same time remaining practical/functional and respecting our budget constraints. His designs not only enhanced the beauty of our landscape (and we believe the value of our property) but also considered critical factors like wildfire risk mitigation, which was a top concern for us living in the Bay Area. Tom took the time to listen to our ideas and concerns while offering insightful suggestions, particularly about how to get the most bang for our buck with our budget. He has always responded to my texts and emails promptly, been punctual at meetings, and has helped me troubleshoot lighting, irrigation and plant/tree issues throughout the past ten years. His attention to detail and expertise completely transformed our outdoor landscape so that we now love spending time in our backyard as a family and entertaining friends!

We had the pleasure of working with Tom to design our front yard, backyard, and two sunk-in basement light wells, and we couldn't be happier with the outcome and the process. Our outdoor space is starting to look amazing as we finish construction —from the custom swim spa to the perfect selection of plants and other material, a spacious grass areas, and well-designed light wells. He has integrated the unique architecture of our main house - detailed stone work, arches, woodwork etc. into these regions.

Tom has demonstrated exceptional attention to detail, catching potential problems early on. We changed our mind so many times but he was very patient and educated us through step, making the process enjoyable.

Tom is super hands-on during construction. There has been so many times where I give him a call from site and we discuss the problem with construction crew live and resolve it. It has happened so many times. Our concrete guy, landscape guy and masonry person are constantly reaching out to him over text. This was so crucial to execution - saving time and money.

Additionally, Tom was instrumental in obtaining permits from the Los Altos Building Department, handling everything from writing and calls to video meetings. His coordination with engineers and other professionals was crucial.

He chose every item for the project, and his recommendations were spot on. We couldn't have done it better without his guidance.

Overall we've thoroughly enjoyed working with Tom and if you're looking for a talented, reliable, and supportive architect, look no further than Tom. He was critical to create a space we absolutely love!
