I met with Cushman Design Group. Originally at the peak of COVID at 2020 to discuss a major renovation of my house. My goal was to have an architect really hear my vision for my dream house and then put the pencil to paper and make it happen. To say I am not an artist would be a severe understatement, so I really needed help figuring out and visualizing the end result. To say that I was pleased would be another big-time understatement. Milford Cushman is a wonderful listener. They say you have two ears and one mouth so use them in proportion: He certainly does that. He was able to turn my dream into reality. Milford and Terri (his partner and wife) are also just very nice people…so over the last three years, during this major project, we all developed a great relationship. We have just moved in, and everything that he did -- all of the detail, the angles, the thought process, the ideas, the creativity was beyond my expectations. On top of that, they were also priced very reasonably compared to some of the other firms. I would highly recommend Cushman Design Group to anybody that is thinking of embarking on any housing construction project: On a 1-10 I give them an 11 🙂 !

We had an exceptional experience working with the amazing CDG team. Milford is a visionary architect who's process for creation landed us the house we dreamed of. Down to every detail... for the duration. The team was engaged, flexible to our creative ideas, and provided candid advice on decor to harmonize key material choices (wood flooring, lighting, cabinet choices etc.) with overall style of the house. Timelines met or exceeded (during a pandemic!).It was a pleasure working with Milford, Terri, Chad, and then team.

After interviewing several architectural firms, my wife and I selected Cushman Design Group for designing our home in Vermont. A significant factor in our decision was Milford Cushman’s design philosophy, which we learned about as we drove around with him to see some of the beautiful homes that his firm had designed: being sensitive to the unique aspects of a site – the views, the light, the terrain – in locating a house and developing its design, as well as his belief in “the sacredness of everyday spaces” and what that means to an individual client. Throughout the design and construction process, we came to rely on Milford’s early experience as a builder; his skills as an artist, listener, and problem solver; and his calm and focused approach as well as the CDG team’s collaborative spirit, creativity, and professionalism. Together, they made the whole process less stressful. It was a pleasure working with them. Since this was the first time my wife and I were working on a house design, there were many things we didn’t know. Milford and his team were very patient in answering our questions, proposing alternative technical and aesthetic solutions for various aspects of the design as our thoughts on what we wanted evolved, explaining the pros and cons of different approaches, responding to feedback, and respecting our design decisions. We are very happy with the beautiful and thoughtful design that they produced, and we are enjoying our peaceful retreat in the woods. We highly recommend Cushman Design Group.

We worked with the Cushman design group last fall/ winter on a remodel on our 200-year-old Cape Cod - farmhouse. These guys are really fantastic. We had in mind building an addition on the house and after a short meeting with them they turned us onto a better and cheaper idea of remodeling part of the downstairs to better utilize the space. They were particularly conscientious about cost and scope of the job while maximizing the potential of the house. They assisted us with locating a contractor and administering a job which was well worth it. They were also very good about keeping in contact with us over the whole span of the project from the initial meeting to completion. The Cushman design group doesn’t feel like a small operation but it’s not so big that we weren’t able to meet with the owner personally many times during the whole project. Their expertise and experience is invaluable. Personally, I found what we paid them was extremely reasonable given the fact how easy they made a whole process. I highly recommend for anyone, especially a young family on a budget, looking to design/build/ remodel/etc. their home.

We’ve all heard horror stories about building a house, which makes this seem terrifying and not for the faint-hearted. Having Milford and his team on-board from the VERY BEGINNING was the only way we could have managed this complex process. Helping us understand the best way to situate our house on the site, how the land may affect or even dictate a floor plan, creating a floor plan to take advantage of the views and light… I cannot imagine having to navigate all the steps without Milford’s wisdom and years of experience. Then performing a mystical and magical feat of layering on top of what works best for our specific site, all the requirements, needs and wants WE have for the space (there were A LOT for a small footprint), and to make it flow and function beautifully. Cushman Design provided solutions we couldn’t ever imagine that made a profound impact on the quality of life our home.

We had been working with Chad Forcier on the design of our Stowe vacation home when we unexpectedly found ourselves purchasing our dream historic home in Cranford, NJ. Since we had already established a great relationship with Chad and the Cushman team - we asked if the architectural design of our NJ home could also be done by Chad! We couldn't have been happier with the end result of our total home renovation of a 1912 Dutch Colonial. Chad is simply brilliant and had the skilled ability to translate our vision into the final design blueprint. He builds relationships so he can customize the experience and will see opportunities in spaces that you never realized were possible! Not only is our home architecturally gorgeous inside and out - but it functions perfectly for all the intended uses for our family of five!
