rented from them with my now ex for a year. Not only was their agent unreliable and spineless he no-called no showed multiple times for unit inspection when I had taken time off. additionally, when faced with my uncooperative ex in regards to lease renewal he gave no indication that he prioritized securing a lease for the following rental period as he continuously beat around the bush. It wasn't until I contacted the branch manager were options presented at which point I had already found a new rental. after which, HSPM's agent repeatedly ignored my current property manager's inquiries as if trying to intentionally impede my escape from them and I had to involve the branch manager again. After moving I repeatedly put in writing that I will not contact my ex as well as verbally communicating to the receptionist at every one of their offices in hampton roads, their agent, and their branch manager that I have an active case against my ex the sent two security deposit refund checks with both parties name's on it. With this my security deposit was inaccessible. I repeatedly tried to resolve the issue by calling and emailing to no avail. I wrote it off as $250 wasn't prolonging my experience. A YEAR LATER January of 2025, they contact me as they had noticed the check hadn't been cashed. I explain the situation again after having to relive my experiences with my ex and to which i reiterated that i legally cannot cash the security deposit check with both parties names on it. They assured me the check would be split with individual names on it. Not only did the check take forever it was STILL in both parties names. I rudely reiterated what I had been telling these clowns for a year and got a response of "two seperate checks have been issued" no indication of whether it was addressed to both parties. with no response as to my inquiry whether it had both names I filed a report with the BBB and informed their rep as such. then and only then was i given a reponse and the check addressed to myself only. it took from april 2024-february 2025 to get a check that is actually able to be deposited

to make matters worse this was only in regards to their customer service. Their method of maintaining the house I rented was borderline negligent. During the property inspections i repeatedly pointed out cracks from settling and the agent refused to document them until I told them "you can either give the pics to your boss or I can." additionally, instead of fixing the door to the garage which looked like it had been kicked in several times they pieced it back together and it held until the nearly footlong deckscrews ripped out of the rotten material and the door itself fell on me. additionally during move in, the house wasn't cleaned at all, there was residue on all blinds, on the stove and I had to wipe all surfaces as the "cleaner" used previously left a residue.

stay away from these guys. not only will they let your property be destroyed, they wont treat you well as a tennant and will treat your residency as a joke.

Kelly Maharty is the person we deal with at HomeServices and she is the best of the best. Responsive, understanding, considerate, flexible, knowledgeable, friendly and a real professional. Her personal interaction is infused with kindness and humor and she is a real joy to work with and deal with in all different situations. She is always prepared and she is very proactive having things ready before hand which makes our dealings much more productive and more efficient - I can't stress this aspect enough; this is so important when dealing with a property manager. As an absentee landlord who lives in California, having Kelly Maharty as my property manager allows me to sleep at night.
Kelly coordinated the installation of new kitchen countertops, new toilet's in 3 bathrooms, replacement of a microwave, and all the other services necessary to get the property on the market in a timely fashion.
Kelly, responds quickly, even on weekends if necessary.
Before Kelly I had to settle for sub standard representation. In a scale of 1-10, 10 being best, Kelly Maharty rates an 11!
