My partner and I have had a lovely time living here. The apartment is clean, all the surrounding tenants are quiet, and the fixtures and inside the unit are beautiful. It's within walking distance of everything you could need and want. I feel safe here and everyone living in the building and those working in the office are friendly (especially Quiara, she's wonderful). The amenities are a huge plus too, the gym is fully equipped and the rooftop of the south building is really special. Just a great place to be, I highly recommend!

I am writing this review because I know how much I relied on reading others when choosing an apartment complex to call home in West Seattle. Below are the pros and cons that we experienced in the two years we lived here (recently moved out).

Pros:
- The units themselves seem to be fairly soundproof, which led to us rarely hearing our neighbors.

- The gym is a great perk, with decent equipment. Although, it was often very dirty (see pictures of dust & dirt piled up in the corners) and was lacking some basic strengthening machines.

-For the most part, the leasing agents seem to be really friendly and caring. But in terms of solving issues and maintaining a level that their prices reflect, they are lacking.

Cons:
- The price. Price increases in all areas (rent, parking, etc.) each year that are significant. The price especially became an issue for us when the upkeep of the amenities was next to nonexistent.

- Cleanliness in common areas is a major issue. Hallways and elevators often smell or have pet messes (this is usually a daily occurrence).

- The fire alarms are fairly frequent and can be traumatic for any pets that are left home alone.

- Units that face the courtyard are quiet, but other residents that use this area are not considerate of their noise levels and will let children scream for hours at end which is extremely loud.

- There is only one elevator that serves the North building units that are closer to the entrance of Whole Foods and it is very slow (sometimes having to wait up to 5 minutes just for it to arrive and bring you to the parking garage). Additionally, the constant smoking by residents makes it unpleasant to use as it often smells.

- There have been issues with people trespassing and sleeping/going to the bathroom in the stairwells, which made us feel unsafe especially for the price we were paying.

- The package room is poorly managed and designed, leading to misplaced or delayed deliveries. There is only one package room for both the North and South building, so if you live in the North building you have to go all the way to the leasing office area to get your packages.

- One of the biggest drawbacks is the lack of central AC. We had to install our own unit, starting as early as April, because temperatures inside reached up to 90 degrees even beginning in the Spring. It's unreasonable to pay that much for an apartment and not have sufficient cooling in the summer months.

Overall, I do not have anything to base this experience against in terms of renting at other apartment complexes in the area, but it seems that for paying the price that we did (and them asking for more) when the complex is pretty gross and they do not make any improvements seems like enough reason to look elsewhere.

I have attached a few photos of the types of messes that were common even just in our hallway and elevator (plus one of the mess in the gym).

I have lived in the south building of the Whittaker for the past 2 and 1/2 years and love it here! The roof tops are lovely and in the summer the community garden is so nice to visit. I think the gym has good equipment. I only wish it didn't close at 10 PM, in fact I wish the other common areas didn't close at 10 PM especially on weekends when I have friends over and want to play pool or something.
The maintenance workers are very efficient and helpful. The walls are sound proof so I barely hear my neighbors. Overall, I love living here!

Overall, we’ve had a great experience with this apartment:
- The leasing office staff are super friendly, professional, and genuinely caring—shoutout to Quiara, who helped us out from our very first call!
- Maintenance is fantastic and super quick. We rarely wait more than a day for any repairs, and sometimes they even get it done on the same day!
- Our floor plan is spacious and really practical—we love it!
Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place in the neighborhood!

I recently moved to this place, so far everything has been great, their system works really well, the community spots are clean in general, the gym is great also, neighbors are friendly , the leasing office is EXCELLENT , Kody is the best and Quiara is so sweet, they have been so helpful, patient and kind, very consistent and fast with the communication. Nothing, but appreciation for their help in all my process.
Really happy with my move in progress!

I had such an easy and great move in experience at The Whittaker. The leasing agent Quiara left a handwritten note with 2 mugs and tote bags, which made us feel so welcome. I used the tote bags at the farmers market, which is only about a 5 minute walk away. The location is great, close to many restaurants, bars, grocery stores, etc. The gym is big, and they have multiple offices and lounges which are clean. I'm very happy to have a home here!

I love living here at the Whittaker! Sure there have been some issues that pop up here and there (cleanliness, some things being out of order) but the staff is always quick to send out community emails and troubleshoot. The leasing office staff is the best of the best - most personable team I’ve come across in all my years of apartment living. The issues I have read about in some of the other reviews are out of anyone’s control and like I said, the team is always on top of it when issues may arise. Maintenance is always super quick, I submitted a service request the other day and it got done within 24 hours. I cannot recommend this place enough! Thank you to the Whittaker team for such a wonderful living experience.

I'm in the preliminary stages of apartment hunting and after visiting 7 buildings in the West Seattle area, The Whittaker has been my overall favorite. My main concern was space, but after my days of apt hunting, I realized that not only did the Whittaker offer the sizable unit I wanted along with beautiful amenities, but that the staff, Kody in particular, made me want to live there. Sometimes we under estimate the importance of the staff who works where you live. Cheers to Kody's professionalism, his knowledge and kindness!
