We have been developing our property near Sequim. The DCD has been responsive, helpful, and courteous. They even called me regarding a refund on permit fees. Our plan has taken a couple of left turns. The DCD has been helpful. Permit times and fees are reasonable. My sense is that they are here to help. I'm moving from a place that charges 5 times the permit fee for the same construction, and take 3-4 times longer to approve. I'm thankful.

My wife and I are in the process of building and developing our property. My rating relates to my interaction with the staff members of community development. Each depart so far has been very helpful and present each time I have needed service or assistance. I blame any frustration that many people are feeling on Washington State Law makers and local Law makers. The employees in community development are assigned to interpret and enforce existing laws and codes previously set forth. Building Department has been great help to me with explaining requirements for attaining a build permit, environmental health was very fair and on target with wait times and explaining their process for septic system. Big shout out to Planning dept, they have been very easy to work with and have gotten back to me promptly on any concern or issue that has come up. All departments so far have had excellent service and take time to explain details to people who are not familiar with the building process. Words of advice, be patient with these folks they deal with all kinds of angry people. Remember it is not them who make the rules or codes. Ask all departments about the Land you are interested in BEFORE you buy it. If you are thinking about building, get familiar with the process of community development before you even look for property. These people will help you the entire process of eliminating properties that won’t work for what you want to build.

Lack of response from them trying to get a building final done for a job at work. Seems to take longer than
Necessary. Don’t seem to mind taking their sweet time. 👏👏😂

They will use whatever they can against you to force you out of the community based not on the will of the community, but on the repeated complaints of one unreasonable person.
