I waited to write this review until a few months after my move in. I've read through some of the bad reviews on here and am wondering if I lived in the same place as these people. I came to Renew on Merritt to seek asylum in a way. I was going through a separation and was looking for a new place.

A few things to consider before you move here:

Office: The office staff works remotely but they respond right away, and maintenance works onsite. Maintenance guy Chris is amazing......................

Amenities: 24hr gym access and heated pool. The pool is ample sized, the jacuzzi is ok, and although we were promised a remodeling of the area, it still remains the same. Washer dryer on location - could be newer but when I have had issues, I just call the 1800 number and they come out within a couple of days to repair.

Location: Close to Lake Merritt and 12th street. There are also great restaurants, groceries stores, shopping areas and coffee shops within walking distance of the apartment.

Service: I never had any issues with service. Their on-line service request system made it easy to put in a service request at any time to repair an issue in my unit. It was usually repaired within 24 hours or the next day. I do see a cleaning company cleaning the property every day. Although I do my best to do my part to keep the property clean, I see others not doing their part. You have your residents that care and others that make it bad for others.

Overall, they are a good community to try out. So, if you're interested, I highly recommend this apartment.

We have had nothing but a great time since moving in April 2023. The team, Mike, Jackie and the Maintenance team are a well oiled machine. They do their absolutely best to keep shared places clean and safe, to keep us all informed about maintenance projects, and to solve all of our concerns as they pop up. Everything from rent payments to submitting maintenance request is seamless and is always a personable experience. It truly feels like a community here and we’re grateful for it!

Mikey and Jackie are so awesome. They have taken such good care of this place since they have come to start managing the building. They are quick to help with tenant issues and they are friendly to talk to as well. I have been living here a long time and it has never been a better time to live here.

I moved here in 2018 with the understanding that I was moving into a luxury home apt. My high rent certainly should have provided this to me, but it’s been a down hill nightmare. The place is filthy and the premises aren’t cleaned, the elevators break dow regularly, there are rodents in the walls and in the lower units themselves, packages are stolen regularly and most recently, the mail boxes were ripped out of the wall (they bolted the mailroom shut, so now no-one can get mail here - even though many of the mailboxes were untouched!). We’ve been begging for security since I’ve lived here. My 2 bikes were stolen out of locked storage, my storage unit has been vandalized multiple times and my car has been vandalized in the paid parking garage. There is so much more. The problems here are endless! We’ve had so many problems that we’ve formed a tenant union and are currently on rent strike, but management won’t talk to us. Management, as of late, has disappeared and there is no one on site at all, which is illegal. So many problems here. My advise - look elsewhere to find your home. Did I mention that I regularly hear gun shots outside of my windows on a regular basis? It’s like living in the wild, Wild West. These owners could care less about us. Since Trinity purchased the property, their focus is on renovating the finishes on the bldg., even while most of it remains in incredible disrepair. Don’t move here! No one needs this for their home environment. It’s hostile here. Look elsewhere, is my best recommendation!

Location, views and tenants are great BUT MANAGEMENT IS HORRIBLE. At least 1 elevator is always broken (this is a ADA violation). There has been no security on sight, tenants are getting their mail stolen, pool chemical levels are unsafe, cars inside the parking garage have been broken into, trash shoot is often blocked and and NOBODY responds to tenant requests.

On top of all this, a homeless person has been living inside the building squatting and the the management lady onsite told me she'll call police and take care of it AFTER HER LUNCH BREAK.

I'd highly avoid this building and the FPI management company. They have no care or concern for tenants safety and well being.
