It’s a beautiful brand new community. The apartments are modern. The community room is cozy and relaxing. The residents are so friendly and so are their pets. I enjoy mostly working with Delilah at the leasing office. She is friendly and helpful to the prospects, residents and her co-workers. Gabby the supervisor is amazing. Always cheerful. The maintenance team- Michael and Tyler are friendly and always happy to help resolve service requests.

I have been living here for almost a year! I absolutely love it, I love the area, the brand new appliances, being close to both Lakewood, Tacoma, Gig Harbor, and Point Defiance is a great plus. We live in a very spacious 2 bedroom with two walk in closets, a lot of space and big windows for natural light!

Alta apartments at University Place not just an upscale and affordable place to live. This is a place with the sense of community. The management is working hard to bring people together. Pictures below are from the event we had couple of days ago - beer testing, food, life music and neighbors getting to know each other. I am looking forward for more events like this!

A warning to anyone who is looking to move, DO NOT MOVE HERE. For a new apartment complex, this place is an absolute joke. From move-in until now, we’ve had multiple issues. First off, it was never disclosed to us the additional costs for the shared amenities. For a 2Bd 2Ba, we pay a ridiculous amount of 2800+ due to the $300 worth of common area/shared amenities, not including what we have to pay TPU for water+sewage+electricity. These are supposed to be new apartments but our ventilation fans have been broken for over a month and still haven’t been fixed after putting maintenance orders. This causes major allergen issues for our family, and it makes it so difficult to breathe around our home due to the lack of proper circulation of air within our home. When you move in, you have to settle for Xfinity which you have to pay the apartment complex for, and if you opt in for a higher speed (the original speed they provide is terrible for a household of devices), you have to pay an extra fee to Xfinity. Overall, I still think this is a generous review considering how unhappy we are as residents here. Greystar, the management company is terrible, and we’ve had much better past rental experience with Dobler Management here in WA state. We are just patiently waiting to finish our lease.

I moved to Alta during Labor Day weekend and while I have had some small issues, most if not all of them have been taken care of by Amber-Lynn, Brian, and Delilah. When I bring up an issue, all three have helped to find a resolution. They’re friendly and always a positive when I come through the Leasing office area. I’ve been able to communicate with Amber-Lynn more in person in three months than I ever was at my old property in two-plus years.

My only issues have been small and hope to see them resolved in the coming days. Thanks!

The facilities are new and well done. There is, however, a significant lack of communication from and follow through by management. One example is that management decided to close the hot tub without gathering input from or notifying residents that it was happening. It’s a community asset we are denied access to and were never informed, or asked about. It was presented at lease signing as year-round accessible.
So, nice community to live in but there’s work to be done in communication on all fronts.
Edit to include there is no easy way to contact upper management when there is a concern. On-site management was requested to respond and they still have not. Another example of poor communication.

I have lived at this property for a year now. I moved in a few months after leasing opened, to a brand new ground floor unit. I have had some of the worst experiences here since I have been an adult living alone. I will say I think the direct management staff are doing their best, but clearly the problem has to do largely with top down decisions and how things are run. The garbage situation is horrible. There is one small garbage area for 9 buildings, and people dump oversized stuff there all the time.
People who don't even live here come throw oversized garbage away here. 0kay now I'll detail the rest of the horrifying stuff that's happened since I moved in. Over the summer, when the pool was open, it is supposed to close at 10 pm. My unit is right outside the common pool area. Very frequently there would be large crowded parties well past 10 pm with zero intervention from staff. To the point where residents were going down asking people to at least turn off the full DJ set they brought, and were getting screamed at and harassed for the interaction. This happened countless times over the summer and all management did was send an email saying 'please respect the closing time of the pool'. Frequently people would have full on parties at the pool and would not let anyone else use it just from how loud and overtaking the area they would be... Then, people don't clean up their dog's poop anywhere. As a fellow dog owner this is annoying because I clean my dog's poop up every time like I should, and I don't want to be accused or assumed to not be. There are also some residents who are completely upsettingly antisocial. There is a resident across the hall from me who is openly smoking in her apartment and has been for the last year. I have complained so many times, everyone else in this building has complained, but she's still smoking in her unit, and you can still smell cigarette smoke all the time even into my apartment sometimes, which is horrifying I live with a 5 year old. I pay over $300 a month in shared common area utilities and parking for this place. My rent is $2550 and I pay about $2850 every month after parking + utilities (not including my own electric account with TPU), and of course, none of these common area utilities were disclosed to me when I started here. In fact, they weren't even charging them to residents for the first few months, then obviously a management choice was made to enforce it. Another resident has also verbally threatened me multiple times. Once he believed I had been sent one of his packages (we have a package room so I'm not sure why he thought this) and he knocked on my exterior door and yelled at me for a full 5 minutes before leaving. Then, a few weeks later, when my dog was pooping in a regular common area (and I was mid-cleaning it), he opened his door to yell at me and threatened me for letting my dog poop in an allowed area, claiming it was his 'yard' and threatening to physically assault me and report me. Also the sound proofing on these apartments is non existent. I can hear absolutely every little thing all of my neighbors are doing at all times, and I'm sure it's mutual. There are many better luxury apartments for this price in better parts of Tacoma.

UPDATE: The community manager did tell me they felt bad about my experiences, and that they would try to resolve things as best they could, also informed me they do in fact have emergency maintenance and that NEW residents receive that number in welcome packets. I was told the gentleman who had been yelling at me was going to be evicted, he still lives here, but luckily has not made further contact with me. Nothing else has been done as far as 'resolutions', although the dog poop problem is slightly better lately. Also I noticed that after my bad review, there are a few new 5 star reviews for this place. Users should know those are from people who actively work at the property and for the property management company. Please do not rent from these cheap ass, awfully overpriced and unsafe apartments.
