Jaleesa
1/5
I'm a current resident. The only reason I'm giving this review 2 stars is because the location and some of the building amenities. Unfortunately the other reviews about this being improperly managed are true. But this is on brand for every privately managed apartment building I've lived in, in Seattle. I've only lived here for 6 months and truthfully the bait and switch with my move-in costs during my initial signing of the lease was the first red flag. They initially over-quoted me $1400 for the initial move in statement. I guess they were trying to compensate for the "8-weeks of rent free special" they were running. It took some back and forth with the leasing agent, Reece, for me to get the correctly quoted amount. It's the lack of integrity that bothered me the most.
I have major concerns about the air quality/ventilation of the open studio apartments (my current unit). I noticed almost immediately that after showering, using the dishwasher, washer/dryer, or outside rain, that there's lingering moisture in the air so thick it actually caused me to have cold-like symptoms. It takes about 2-3 hours to air out with the single patio door. Perhaps the larger 1-bedrooms are a different experience, but I wouldn't recommend living in the studio units here if you plan to actually use the appliances and fixtures.
The other concern I have is with the Smartdoor system. This building uses the fob system for entering/exiting the building, the apartments, using the elevator, and entering amenity spaces. After speaking with the property Director I learned that property management has access to and regularly views resident data pertaining to usage of the SmartDoors. Understandable when it comes to overall building management, right? But they also have access to residents entry and exit times of their apartments, as indicated through the use of our fobs on our apartment door locks. The opportunities for property staff to misuse this data are numerous! There is no mention of consent for processing this data in the lease or in any of GreyStar's policies, there's no option for a traditional lock, and there are no instructions on how to opt-out of collection of this data.
FYI for current residents: I raised concerns with the Property Director about potential experiences with staff misusing this data and naturally, there was hesitancy to self-incriminate - she was only able to confirm that usage of this data is within the scope of responsibilities of property management staff, not whether or not it was being misused by them. I also requested a copy of my privacy data, its usage, and a request to opt out of, from Greystar privacy team and haven't received this info from them just yet. Granted, this isn't a problem just for this building, it applies to other buildings with Smartdoors/locks as well, but if you value your privacy I would strongly suggest you consider living elsewhere.
The amenity spaces are well maintained and the coworking space is great especially if you work from home and need a change in scenery. The gym has the same problem as the studio apartments: poor air quality/ventilation. It has a lingering moist, sweaty odor and it gets incredibly hot quickly - even with the AC on.
If you have low expectations of customer service from property staff, trust Greystar to safeguard your tenant rights to privacy, and have a high tolerance for living in a studio with excessive moisture and poor air quality, then this is the place for you.
