At first, I was absolutely thrilled with this charming place. While the building is not new, and could use a good whitewashing, the facility is quite adequate for its purpose. The idyllic setting in a quiet coastal town is super relaxing. The playground is great, with the biggest set of monkey bars I've ever seen. The schoolteacher is young and attractive (and single!), the children are polite and respectful - not only did they sing a wonderful little version of a Scottish folk song, they even demonstrated how calm and quiet they can be during a fire drill. Very impressive. What keeps me from giving this place a rave review is that they have a rather serious problem with birds. Crows, mostly, although I think there may have been some blackbirds mixed in. The birds are VERY aggressive and easily disturbed; why, even the nearly silent children walking outside during the drill was enough to send them into a frenzy. This led to a rather unfortunate and disturbing scene in which the birds actually ATTACKED the children! I've never seen anything like it. The quaint little school turned into hell on earth! There was blood everywhere, ripped out hair, plucked eyeballs, bits of ears, screaming children and feathers, feathers, feathers. I don't know if I'll ever get those images out of my head. After the blood was cleaned up and the bodies were dragged away, I came to find out that this was NOT an isolated incident. Apparently, the area near the school has had other similar incidents involving birds! In summary, the Bodega Bay School has enormous potential and a lot going for it, but I can't recommend it until they solve that bird problem once and for all.
