They are so nice on the phone. But if you get the brunette, Jessica, you might want to wait for the nice blonde lady. Jessica is quite unfriendly and extremely curt.

If you’re getting married, read this

If you get your marriage license here they will ask you a bunch of questions and they charge you 37 bucks. However, they won’t ask you an important question. That question is if your wife is going to be changing your name. If she’s going to change your name you have to make sure the type that in at the bottom of the page because if they don’t and you graded in along with all the other stuff you’re supposed to write in on your wedding day then when you come back to turn in that license, they will tell you it’s Boyd and charge you another $37. And tell you it’s your fault. They told me it happens all the time. I bet it does. I have a feeling that they do that on purpose. Knowing that at that point, they’ve got you over a barrel and you have to pay what you have to pay because you already got married and you’re screwed. If not 37 bucks doesn’t sound like a lot but it adds up. Butte county screws people like that.

I had to get a hard copy or my birth certificate because I couldn't find my original. The young lady helping was super nice, but for some reason, she couldn't find my information on the computer. Luckily, Brandy knows my life history and was able to find it in a different section on the computer. Brandy not only found it but was able to train the new girl at the counter. Brandy was so good with the young lady while she showed her where to find my information.
Thank you, Brandy!

** I was adopted by my 'step-dad' when I was young, so my information isn't in the main part where most everyone's information is at. Add the fact that I was accidentally born at home & not in a hospital to make it even more confusing. 😉

We were told in person that they could perform a wedding ceremony for next week but we weren’t sure of an exact date so we didn’t make a decision at the time (we paid the $92 for a marriage license there and then).

The next day we called to book a ceremony and were told over the phone that we were unable to book a ceremony until December because of the Camp Fire (I will be out of the country by then and won’t be returning until after the marriage license would expire).

Now we will have to find somewhere else in the next week to book a ceremony. I am very disappointed that they lied to us.

The gal who helped me search for maps and records was so helpful and pleasant to work with. Much better to go into the office than search online.
