Love my city! Do not Love the building department Bureaucratic adopted system of care for in door office applications -permit running, hard to do a face to face anymore. Most applications ive done in the recent years are requested to be done by email first. Then response. Then whatever permit you are running. No more OTC reviews. So different in a bad way since city was small in a confined space in 3rd ave back in the early 2000’s
Been in business over 20 yrs and this city became the most popular in a bad way for local tradesmen to pull permits. Yet they forget that the highest fees and taxes are in this city. More funding=bad performance. … City officials need to be fired.

2 years again And still horrible policies And services, you have to submit paper plans, 3 sets, then city throws them away every time they review. You can’t reuse the same plan’s and make you print them out, very unfriendly city
2 years later and still the worst department in San Diego County, No help, pure denial at all turns, no interest.
Ive come back 2 years later and still same horrible customer service. Other reviewers are saying its "bureaucracy", but that is all the city and the department heads fault, they decide how much "bureaucracy" is needed. They charge 20000$ for DIF fees for ADUS and its not posted online or accessible in anyway other way until you submit and they want all that money upfront + plan check fees. This city is anti growth and has no remorse or cooperation with home owners.

This is my first time opening a business in San Diego Chula Vista. The people in the building/planning, finance dept were very helpful with my submittals. They explained options, possibilities, outcomes, etc. They were engaged in my business concept and were very supportive. Daniel and Beverly even reached out to check if I had reviewed the plans (which I had) I requested a month earlier. No city does that. Their service is very much appreciated.

A very well organized office. The staff is very polite and friendly. I have very little experience with the permit process and they have been very helpful guiding me.

Literally worse than DMV. Bring a lunch because you will be waiting a long time even if you here before open time. average wait time of at least 3 hrs. Person I sat next to was there from open to closing.

I've called multiple times but continues to go to Voice mail or you get transferred from one extension to another and still no answer. We need better customer service

Worst building department ever. Who ever runs this place should be reevaluated. So inefficient, lacking, and disorganized. I'd prolly have better luck in tj.

Horrible! Worst jurisdiction to deal with in Southern California. Open at 10 am and staff promptly takes lunch at noon.
