I loved my experience renting from Compass! Management was really friendly and always explained everything clearly. Maintenance was always very fast and communicative on when they’d be there and how long it would take. Move in and move out were both very smooth and easy processes. I would have stayed at the apartment but me and my son needed more space. It was overall one of the best rental experiences I’ve had!

I was in Eau Claire for an internship and Compass was able to work with me on a Month to Month lease on an apartment. From when I inquired about it to moving out, they were always very prompt at answering texts and phone calls. For the most part, I worked with Emily as she gave me a virtual tour, since my school is about 11 hours away, responded to my questions and made my lease for me. If I were back in Eau Claire again, I would certainly go through Compass again for my rental needs.

They're a good company to rent from. The landlord that I had for most of my time renting through them doesn't work there anymore but the company as a whole is good. Timely maintenance requests completed. Friendly staff. We had a fire in our building while I lived there and they handled it well. Hardly any hidden fees. They do increase your rent every year but that is to be pretty much expected with renting. The rent that i started with was reasonable but it started getting a little steep as it increased each year.

In the 2 years since Compass has taken ownership of the property my rent has been raised just shy of 40% and now they are taking away the buildings storage space as well.
The maintenance crew is the only upside of renting from this company, as they do a stellar job and in a timely fashion.

We moved to Eau Claire from across the country and they were willing to answer any and all questions we had since we were moving without seeing the place in person. The unit is very true to the photos and to the description. We are very happy with both the apartment and property management company! Special thanks to Clark who was wonderful to us and understanding of our situation. Made the stressful move so much easier!

Compass is amazing! Their staff is exceptionally friendly, helpful, and professional. Also, it's clear they invest a lot of time and money into taking care of their properties. For example, our apartment building is currently getting a new parking lot and new patios for everyone. All maintenance requests we've submitted have been taken care of within a day or two, even low-priority requests. Could not recommend Compass more highly!!!

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! They have an absolutely ridiculous policy of having the damage deposit "stay with the unit." I had a family member who paid half of the damage deposit before she moved into her apartment and signed a one year lease. After the year was up, she decided to move out but the roommate was staying in the apartment and signed another year lease with her boyfriend moving in as the new roommate. Even though my family member's name isn't even on the lease anymore Compass is keeping her part of the damage deposit. They state "any transfer of money between current and previous tenant(s) will need to be worked out between themselves." This policy is completely unfair and just causes conflicts and awful situations. The roommate and her boyfriend refuse to give my family member any money for a damage deposit. So, not only is my family member's damage deposit "staying with the unit" even though she is not living there and her name is nowhere on the lease, but Compass now has someone living in an apartment who has not put a dime in towards a damage deposit. My family member was counting on that money to help her pay rent for her new apartment. Very, very disappointed. Please be warned!

EDIT: In fairness, I am going to take the part out about Amanda not contacting me. She did call me back and gave me a direct line and I appreciate them being willing to discuss this with me. But, I still stand by the other part of the review and the unfair damage deposit/addendum policy. I understand that the addendum was signed and what is stated and I'm not disputing that. I'm saying that addendum and policy is vitally flawed. There is actually a fairly simple fix to this situation when it arises again. Take out the vague language in the addendum which is requiring roommates to "work it out amongst themselves" and add another document that all of the roommates would sign. It would simply state that the person moving in would pay the person moving out 1/2 of the total damage deposit minus any damages and cleaning fees. Compass would have to do a walk through before anyone moved out. Which you would think they would want to do every time anyhow. Don't they want to know who they have been renting to or if there was any damages being done? That does nothing for this situation now, but hopefully Compass thinks about treating people fairly in the future
