If I could do zero starts I would. All custom house cares about is money. We have told them about several problems that pose as a safety hazard to our children that they refused to do anything about.. The front desk worker Liz is extremely unprofessional and downright rude. Going as far as mocking and laughing at me when I try to express concern about my childs safety in our dangerous yard that they refuse to repair. She stated I should just “take my kids to the park if I was concerned”. If you can avoid this property management company I would at all costs.

Custom House Realty is a great company to work with! I have been working with them for 2 years now. All of the staff and employees are very professional and very respectful. Any time there is an issue or concern with the rental, they are on top of it and will fix any issues right away! I highly recommend this company for your next rental in the Monterey area! They are truly one of the best property management companies around!

DO NOT TRUST THEM!!!!!!!!!! They stole so much money out of our deposit. I attached the picture. I had the house professionally cleaned and carpets professional cleaned. We lived in this house a year and had nothing but problems due to it being put up for sale in the middle of our lease. They charged us to paint the whole inside of the house (illegal). We did not damage the property at all. They charged us to clean when I already had it professionally cleaned. I will dispute this and get a navy lawyer if I have to. I have never had money taken out of my deposit and we are military and have lived in 10 houses. Do not use them, they will screw you over.

Our whole experience with Custom House Realty & Property was great. Anytime we had an issue they were quick to respond. Maintenence always worked around our work schedule and even through the pandemic they were available. Management at the office were easy to communicate with and was always available when needed. Terry, Judy, Auburn, Mark (maintenance guy) and A.J left us with a great rental experience.

They will nickle and dime you for everything at move out. Was great tenant - never late with rent, never an issue. Left the apartment in move in condition (much more than is required) and they charged me $300 for cleaning and $150 for carpet cleaning of two small rooms. Not to mention flea treatment at $140. Have pictures and video to prove. Just poor business. Trying to make a commission on every service. Will never use again or refer.

I really felt like this management group went above and beyond to make our rental feel like a home. Moving in before the Winter hit, we learned our heater wasn’t working during the first cold spell, also pointing out to them when we did that the freezer was liquifying our ice cream as well.
PG&E couldn’t get here for almost 2 weeks and amidst this pandemic, manufactured items like refrigerators and heaters had a similar wait. Auburn with the Custom House said that wouldn’t do and apparently had connections in the community and had a new heater and refrigerator installed within days of our request!
It is so wonderful to live in a place that is well managed and overseen by caring people that not only go above and beyond to meet our needs as renters, but also have the roots and connections in the community that they do to pull it off!
We were cozily eating ice cream during the last cold spell and wanted to offer our gratitude for the simple pleasures 😊

This rating is for taking the time to show one of their rental. As most place now, it is all online, group showing and so on, credit application before even seeing the rental. Property management has to be hospitable and flexible for showings.

Terrible place to rent from constant letters threatening to evict us, based on false claims from on site manager named Norma. She is like a vigilante watching your every move, makes it feel more like a prison than a home. They also left us a total of 8 days without hot water and decided they would not pro-rate our rent either. Just terrible overall. THEY ARE CROOKS, MAKE SURE TO BE PRESENT WHEN DOING FINAL WALKTHROUGH, THEY WILL COME UP WITH RANDOM STUFF TO CHARGE TO KEEP YOUR DEPOSIT.
