We stopped to offer our respect for lost soldiers. A nice piece of military history here that shouldn't be forgotten. There is plenty of parking...Gravel with mud puddles. The wonderful tower offers splendid views.worth a stop.

The scenery is beautiful. Climbing to the top of the tower or sitting in the Almost Heaven swing staring at the ridges and valleys all around is worth the visit to the park. What makes the park great is history! The visitor center and museum were not open during our visit, but the park is so well laid out with historical markers and informative signs that it didn't matter. There are many miles of trails covering the entire battlefield throughout the park. You can walk around for hours learning about the battle and the soldiers who fought here. If you are in the area and enjoy history, you need to check Droop Mountain out!!

Overlook has stunning views. The info trail behind park office is a somber stroll through history. I could feel the battle by reading the placards. The windy road through the park feels like a green paradise. Rangers quite helpful and friendly!

West Virginia's 1st State Park! Incredible views from the fire tower and a great place for a picnic. There's a playground and plenty of tables nearby. Lots of history within the park to learn about.

Nice trails, very clean area. There is a sign up about being aware of bears but we didn't get to see any. It was extremely windy, a little cooler since it's off season, and things were closed.

My first visit was the end of October. The new Superintendent, Jim, was very welcoming. I parked at the Park Office and walked to the Lookout Tower via The Tower Trail. I was a bit saddened to hear some thief found the need to steal the WV Tourism Swing located at the Lookout Tower.

Great spot for picnics and experiencing nature. The watchtower view was wonderful.

There are multiple trails in the area too. I did the Minie Ball Trail, which was an easy one.

Almost Heaven...
