I found GBA Realty during my 2nd year in Oakland and enjoyed my five year stay at their property. The manager (Quan), his team, along with the landlord, accommodated us at every turn and responded promptly to maintenance concerns. Despite a statewide shutdown and months of health-wide uncertainty during the pandemic, GBA was still responsive to our needs and even offered to defer rent payments (if needed).

Quan is professional, kind, flexible, yet fair and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. At the end of day, trust GBA…they’ll take care of you.

By far the worst housing agency I have ever used. Foremost, their rentals are significantly overpriced, which I knew when I signed the lease, but I needed housing quickly. Unfortunately, I did not know I was signing up for an incredibly unpleasant year. My first red flag was Quan repeatedly saying I should be so grateful that he is "allowing" me to lease an apartment despite having a full time job that was over three times the rent.

When a switch in my breaker box needed to be flipped, Quan had NO idea where it was. He eventually visited the premise and was unable to locate it. This is a massive safety issue. My heating was broken for ages and I had to repeatedly contact GBA in the winter before I could get a response.

Most concerningly of all, I realized that my PG&E and water bill were incredibly high. When I contacted Quan I found out that I had been charged for two people living in my unit despite being the only person there. That means I was charged DOUBLE for PG&E and water for SEVEN months without ever being notified that he had somehow decided someone else was living in my apartment despite it being a one person apartment and only having my name on the lease.

Outside of all these huge issues, my apartment had been remodeled with the cheapest materials I have ever seen. Touching the wall with your hands would mark it and if you tried to wipe the marks, the paint would immediately disintegrate. The entire apartment was slanted, so you could not even have a rolling desk chair without locking it. The windows leaked water from the rain and there were massive gaps ruining the apartment's insulation. My apartment was fitted with automatic lights in the bathroom which would turn off automatically every minute with no way around that.

I was not at all surprised then that the same agency charging me double for seven months of a twelve month lease without ever notifying me (meaning I would have never found out if I had not repeatedly asked), also claimed damage to the apartment when I left despite taking moveout photos and videos, taking 450$ of my deposit.

I would recommend literally anywhere else besides GBA Realty and Quan.

Quan is hands down one of the most amazing, caring and really genuine human beings I have ever met. I moved to SF in 2017 for a change and better opportunities. Unfortunately, I had run into some hard times before so my credit was shot. Many people wouldn't think twice to consider my credit at all. Quan spoke w/me and gave me advise like any great caring parent would. He also told me that everyone deserved a second chance. And here I am 6 years later; I have moved to multiple units and all under Quan except one, but w/his amazing reference. This was only because he had nothing in the area that I was looking to move and in my budget at the time. I eventually went back to him and I've never experienced anything bad with him. He has gone above and beyond to bring me candles when one area of my unit did not have light one time and while I waited for the service. Mind you I had Covid at the time, so he still went and just knocked and left it outside my door. This is just one example, because Quan has always been readily available no matter when I have reached out to him. His staff has always been very attentive and helpful as well. I myself am a property manager, so I know full circle what his position entails and on top of that he is a realtor. He has a lot on his plate and is still a kind human being. I hands down recommend reaching out to him if you are looking to rent or purchase. You will not regret your experience! Thank you, Quan!

Quan is a caring and considerate landlord. Whenever there were issues in my unit, he was very responsive in his actions. When my washing machine’s computer chip was malfunctioning, Quan was kind enough to replace the washing machine with a new one. In addition, Quan offers rent at a price tag that benefits the tenants themselves in the time of inflation. On top of that, his apartments are rent controlled. Lastly, my conversations with Quan, Annie, and GBA Realty have been very professional. I highly recommend renting from Quan and GBA Realty for Bay Area workers who have remote positions.

I lived in one of the San Francisco residences in the Portola and Quan treated me like family. He made himself available whenever I needed help.
I have NEVER had a landlord like Quan. I'm moving out of state temporarily but would DEFINITELY rent again from GBA!
I read the other comment and that is nothing like the experience I had in the past 2 years.

I would not recommend this company for people seeking or listing apartments. I called to follow-up about an apartment for rent. They told me only a tiny apartment with no kitchen was available in the building, but I was looking at an Apartments.com listing with another apartment available at that address. I tried to understand why I was seeing an online listing the agent said didn't exist. I asked "Was the apartment recently rented?" thinking maybe the post just hadn't expired yet. He said "Well that is NONE of your business!!" and hung up.

Not only was the bad customer service a surprise, but if they represent a variety of apartments shouldn't the agent have mentioned other places they had available (that came with kitchens!)? I am actively looking and would have loved to see other options they had! Not happening now.

Quan is the man, pleasant, professional, and really wants what is best for you. Yes, we had a slow start, but after that it was all roses. he simply cares, and took care of any issue we had, making it an easier home transition.
