If you need a place to rent, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE look elsewhere. We moved here from North Carolina, and rented a property at 130 Terrace Lane, Bluefield VA from August 2019 to June 1, 2020, not even a year. When we spoke with the rental office, we explicitly stated that we needed dependable air conditioning and good maintenance due to health concerns. The day we moved in, the house was FILTHY, and had to be thoroughly cleaned and the air conditioning wasn't working. The air conditioning and heating was a constant concern and was always going out in the hottest or coldest part of the year and needed repair every other month. The hardwood floors in the kitchen would not come clean no matter how much you scrubbed and the carpets were so old they had worn marks in them and black mold spots around the edges of the room. This was reported to the owner, nothing was done. But the biggest concern came when Brian Sluss, NC moved in with his parents two doors down. To be clear, Brian was not on the lease and should have not been allowed to move in much less live there. Some time later, we discovered he was a prime suspect in his girlfriend's disappearance in NC and in fear for our safety, we reported the same to our landlord Chris Wearmouth. Instead of forcing the enforcement of his lease, he called our neighbors (Brian's parents) and told them we had complained about Brian living there. We were put in direct danger by our landlord. In short, the landlord did not believe us, and as it turned out, Brian Sluss was charged with First Degree murder for the murder of Monica Moynan in NC. I was living in the property at 130 Terrace Lane Bluefield VA when they picked him up. We were living next door to a criminal and when we confronted the landlord for this, he simply stated that the parents of Brian Sluss had been "good renters". We also had been good renters, but it was ok to put our safety at risk to protect the parents of someone charged with First degree murder. PLEASE PLEASE DONT RENT FROM THIS PLACE. Your safety means NOTHING, and all that matters is the money. We moved ONLY because of the fact that our neighbors needs were put before OUR safety. We were great renters and our loyalty to this place meant nothing. The maintenance is horrible, and the homes are way over priced for what you get. Something else you will need to be aware of is the fact that when you rent from this place, it is a requirement that the lease agreement be read to you. I advised that I had a Masters degree and could read it very well myself, but still had to have it read to us word for word like I was illiterate. Please save yourself the money and hassle, go elsewhere.
