Purchasing a car can be a stressful experience as is, but I had quite possibly the worst experience ever with Mercedes Modesto. I’m going to list the details for my own sake to document what happened:

The car’s official listing was sent to me on November 21, 2024 by Al Van Buren, the fleet manager. The car, a 2023 GLC300 was listed as having 6340 miles.

When we went through and agreed to a price and decided to purchase on December 2, 2024, Al came back and let me know the car now had 7926 miles and likely the “manager” drove the car home a few times. 1600 additional miles in less than 2 weeks time. By this point, I had filled out a financing application and we were in the process. Al notified me that there was no negotiating the price. So, I decided to move forward despite some reservations.

I was purchasing this car online and remotely, so it required a notary and transport, which we agreed MB would handle scheduling. There was a mistake with the notary which required another signature and all in all this took 2 weeks’ time. On December 16th, I had yet to hear back from Mercedes, so I followed up asking what else they needed from me. They had not collected a down payment yet, and I started to have 2nd thoughts. There was no sense of urgency, no one cared about getting this car into my hands, and I still had a bad feeling about the additional mileage that suddenly appeared on the car.

After a few back and forth messages about how the down payment would be collected, I’d submitted it all by December 19th. Silence. So then I followed up AGAIN on the 20th to see what was going on with my car. When was it going to be delivered? The transport service had not even been contacted yet.

On the 23rd, I was finally contacted by Al that the transport service would pick the car up the day after Christmas (either Thursday or Friday) and deliver by the weekend. I had to follow up again with Al on the 26th asking for the contact info of the transport company…and oh hey…am I ever gonna get the paperwork for the car? Signed contracts? Anything? He said he’d email it to me.

I realize this is all around Christmas and that makes timing difficult and focus is not on work, but remember…it’s been over 3 weeks now. 3 weeks of back and forth and most of the time ME reaching out to Mercedes for any updates.

It’s now Saturday, the 28th and I still have no car. I contacted the transport service and they said there was no way they’d be able to deliver over the weekend as Al stated because they’re closed on Sundays. So I “might” be able to get the car on Monday, December 30th. I’m scheduled to be out of town as of Monday for a week. Which was not a problem since I was supposed to get the car over the weekend. It is now very much a problem.

Now, sitting at my desk, carless, fuming, I get an email from MB finance that my car payment is due January 1, 2025. I login and look (since I still don’t have any physical copies of my paperwork)…and yup, my contract is listed as of December 2, 2024. So apparently I’m paying a month’s car payment and car insurance and additional maintenance and warranty costs for a car that has been sitting on their lot next to a team of sales & finance people who have no sense of urgency and could care less if this car gets to me or not.

Happy holidays to me and all my regrets over this entire purchase and process…

I cannot believe I paid over 2300 for Mercedes Maintenance B in May 2024. The brakes are stretching bad and my check engine light came on. I recently got another notice in Nov 2024 for maintenance B again on my Mercedes. That is way too soon for another maintenance B. These mechanics are terrible, what did they do to my car? They took advantage of me being a senior citizen. They should give me a refund. I will never go back to them.

I purchased my first Mercedes from this dealership and I’m so pleased with the experience my sales rep Gurvinder Judge provided. I live in the Bay Area but still drove over to Modesto to purchase the car I wanted because of the great deal Judge secured for me. Throughout our conversations he was personable, reasonable and never lost patience despite my several questions! If you’re looking to buy a new car, definitely give them a visit & ask for Judge 🙂
