Cockroaches Infestation at this apartment complex on 25th & Broadway. They reproduce more in summer I am told. My kitchen is unused for a few months now; it is completely dry, at least where I can see. I keep my food garbage & toothbrush in the refridgerator. So, I do not know if its from a leak or from inside of the cabinets or from the bathroom
I have been living at this Studio apartment for 6 years & I pay $1260, which started at $800 & crept up $100 almost every year especially when new management came. It is very close to Downtown San Diego; about a mile away.
Cockroach issue started June of 2020. I have bought caulk for cabinets & adhesive (recommended by staff) which took me 2; and sealable bags. This cost about $500. The least they can do is pay for the caulking that I had to use to fill in holes around & inside of the cabinets. I can understand not paying for adhesive or my bags.
Someone had to spray my unit, also it was baited several times. The cabinets are probably from the 80s or and they were not made properly & had so many holes & gaps. I was told I cannot be reimbursed although I believe the cabinets probably just need to be replaced. The maintenance also helped to caulk part of my cabinets.
I have also tried Ortho, Complete Insect Killer, Roach tablets, Poison Stations, its costly. I spray my bathroom sink with bleach after every hand wash & after I shower. If I forget one time, I will see a Cockroach.
The laundry room has been needing deep cleaning for years. I found a cockroach egg there. I wrote a letter to South Coast Commercial a few weeks ago & someone who is not the manager responded to me & said the Manager will contact me but they did not until yesterday but not regarding my letter I wrote; only regarding not getting shoe coverings/booties for the Maintenance workers.
There is usually a lot of garbage around this complex & it has been that way since I have lived here. Especially, on the front of the complex where the homeless hang out at night & leave all their food wrappers on the sidewalk & in the bushes; as well as poop, pee etc. There’s ferrel cats also, I feel bad for but they poop in the parking lot or around the building, & lots of food containers for them.
I would like to move but because of Covid I was laid off so I do not have proof of income to move into a new place; although I can still afford to live here, lucky enough. I have school, it is really hard to sleep & study; I leave lights on all night. It is giving me anxiety & is not an enjoyable living situation feeling like its dirty even though I clean.
I have had maintenance request & asked to please wear booties, inside of my unit; via email & maintenance request. Since it is so dirty outside on the ground, & because they can track in cockroach poop, which attracts other cockroaches, & also track in eggs which looks almost like dirt. They can also track in regular dirt & human fecal matter as well.
My carpet is white; which I purchased to cover a blue carpet. The blue carpet that came with the apartments is so dirty that when I would walk on it even after vacuuming & shampooing my feet would become dark with dirt. So that’s why I purchased a carpet to cover it & now they do not want to make a priority to wear shoe coverings in my home as I request.
I asked last resort if I should use my sheets & management said yes use my sheets, but I changed my mind. I do not think I should have to put my sheets down on the ground for maintenance to walk on them, after all. My mistake to suggest it. Maintenance found some finally, after repeatedly asking. The other day the shoe coverings the maintenance person found were dirty. Its better than nothing. I have also asked them to take their shoes off but they say its against company protocol.
I am not comfortable to even put maintenance request in since its like prying teeth to ask the workers to wear shoe coverings. I asked management that if I purchased them would I be reimbursed, & they said no.
