Absolutely terrible company to deal with regarding leasing. They will lie to your face, claim bogus charges regarding your security deposit as they try to nickle and dime you out of it. If you want your security deposit back, prepare to fight for it in court. Happened to my roommate and myself, as well as our neighbors, although they backed down from my neighbors charges (same exact charges as my unit, mind you). Avoid at all costs, there are plenty of better landlords in the grand rapids area, and this is my first time having to deal with people of such low caliber. Save yourself the hassle and go with someone else.

*update* Kyle @ VREI contacted my roommate and resolved all previous issues. If you deal with Kristen, make sure to contact Kyle as she cannot be trusted.

I have dealt with VREI in the past and have friends that live in VREI-managed properties ... these guys are great! Excellent customer service, friendly people and timely repairs ... if they're ever needed. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to rent or manage a property.

Terribly unethical company. They will try and swindle every penny they can from you if you're not aware of your rights as a tenant all while lying and stonewalling until they're faced with legal threats.

My roommate and I leased an apartment from them and all was well and good until move-out. We attended the move-out inspection with VREI and they told us there were no damages and our deposit would be returned in full.

The first sign that something was amiss was two weeks after move-out when Vision Real Estate Investment requested we sign a piece of paper stating we "release all rights to the security deposit on the aforementioned apartment". We refused to sign this and awaited the return of our deposit. Thirty days later (the final day they could return the deposit without punishment per MI law) they sent our deposit minus $210 in damages while also failing to account for an additional $100 which was not returned. The damages they billed us for included 9 volt batteries in the smoke detectors, AAA batteries in the thermostat, and missing lighbulbs, all of which were false and consisted of inflated charges ($20 per battery?!?). We disputed these charges and they continually stalled on resolving the issue and have not refunded us the remainder of the deposit. It has now been over six weeks since we moved out of the apartment.

Kristen E. is the person we have been in contact with who has handled the move-out process and failed to resolve this matter. We paid all rent on time, we were accomodating when they requested to show the apartment to future renters, and we even put up signs in the windows advertising the apartment as being available. Beware of this company and their subsidaries when renting, they should be avoided at all costs.

NOTE: After posting this review I was contacted by Kyle at VREI. He apologized for the issues and my deposit was refunded in full. Thanks Kyle.
