Windekind Commons Cohousing is a vibrant new community perched on the side of the Green Mountains, abutting Camel's Hump State Park in scenic Huntington, VT. The community shares 130 acres of common land, with meadows, forests, ski trails, gardens, and more.

When we were looking for a place to raise our kids, we wanted somewhere they could engage with nature, and also somewhere where they would know their neighbors and have a sense of community and interdependence. The more we learned about cohousing, the more we found that it was a great fit for us. We have found folkx who are like minded in their compassion, community spirit, and passion for living in a sustainable way with our land that is rich in resources. The Windekind Commons Cohousing community is growing, and there are still undeveloped lots available for sale.

After moving to Vermont, my family decided that we wanted to buy land and build our own home. We looked at properties for sale and happened upon Windekind Commons. The idea of a cohousing community appealed to us since we were new to the state and away from family. We wanted our children to grow up with close relationships where neighbors support neighbors and share responsibilities. We also wanted them to experience nature every day. Windekind is such a beautiful place, and our whole family loves living here. Our neighbors are amazing people and are creating with us the social support network that we were hoping for. We're also planning and building projects (like shared garden beds) that will serve the whole community. The planned community, in total, will have nine households. We're looking forward to the remaining lots selling so our community can continue to grow.

Two years ago my wife and I were looking for property in Vermont where we could build a house to start the next phase of our lives. We wanted close access to wilderness hiking and skiing but we didn’t want to be isolated, two miles from our nearest neighbor. We stumbled onto windekind in our web searches and we are so glad we took a little bit of a risk on something unique and wonderful. In such a short time we find ourselves part of an incredible community with shared resources and goals. Just the past few weeks we have been working on a kitchen garden and a play area for the kids. We truly have such good friends as neighbors. And surrounded with miles and miles of trails on windekind property and camels hump state park which adjoins the property. Yet Burlington is only half an hour away. We love it here and encourage like-minded folks to consider joining windekind. We are so happy that we did.
